IMPORTANCE OF OUR SPORTS MEDICINE TELEVISION:

Professional athletes test their bodies every day in ways most of us might have a hard time imagining. In the nearly year-round training season leading up to the Tour de France, for example, a rider will work his way up to 6 hours of cycling a day for 5 or 6 days a week at varying levels of intensity. He might ride 60, 100, even 180 kilometers in a single day to simulate what he’ll experience on the Tour.

While Tour de France riders are exceptional athletes in a category of their own, professional and aspiring pro-tennis players, golfers, basketball players, personal trainers, and athletes of every variety also spend an impressive number of hours on the court, course, field, or in the gym.

Such intense training can take its toll on the body, and injuries are virtually inevitable. This is why having a skilled sports medicine doctor is essential. The NADA television productions  explore sports medicine in more detail and how it helps athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

Statistically, high school athletes do better in school and are more prone to stay out of trouble. Usually, there is an academic and conduct rule that prevents students from failing classes or getting in trouble too many times and still being allowed to play or compete.

Student athletes are also more likely to participate in more than just one activity in high school, whether it be another sport, club or community service.

When a youngster is seriously injured  information is a key to helping the family in their time of need. At the NADA we have a large data base that will guide these families get the help they need. We have informational data   concerning rehabilitation, necessary medical equipment available, contacts of specialists and support groups including charitable organizations and state & federal agencies that can help. Our goal is to provide information to the family. Hopefully, it will be helpful and aide in the recovery of their child.

To determine the information needs, level of Internet access, and current and preferred formats and sources of information of adults with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). Individuals with SCIs have a high lifetime risk for medical complications and other health conditions secondary to their injury. Many secondary conditions can be prevented or mitigated through appropriate self-care and/or self-management. People with SCIs need timely, high-quality information about health and medical issues after discharge and throughout their lifetime to improve self-care and maximize quality of life.

The  (nada) Medical Referral team welcomes all medical queries, from the most basic to the most complex, giving patients the answers they need with courtesy and patience.

There are government agencies on the state and federal level. .We try to help the disabled find the answers they are needing. Perhaps a local charity can help them? Or a state representative? We try to find the answer to their problems.

There are a variety of options if you are disabled,  a parent of a disabled child looking for a direction on financial assistance. The government and nonprofit agencies can assist disabled persons in the form of goods, social security disability, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), grants, low-interest loans, or other services.

Government programs and private insurance are primary ways to help offset the cost of treating children with special health care needs. In 2019, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) covered almost half of children with special health care needs.

Our goal is to research all the different ways a family can get get help.

Community Leaders

Other Government and Charitable Services

Prominent business leaders have always volunteered to help us. We believe our "all volunteer pledge" makes a difference. Everyone involved donates  time to help disabled youngsters. George Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees always gave his time to help youngsters. Especially, children with disabilities. He like others involved, helped without wanting any recognition for their generosity. These are wonderful people.

Giving back is our focus.

Those born of an unselfish concern for the welfare of others -- can have a profound effect on a person's emotional well-being. Helping others improves social interaction, distracts people from their own problems, and improves self-esteem and competence. It even suggests concern for others can allow one to build a "kindness bank" of memories that can be drawn upon well into the future.

The "NADA Sports Safety Council" looks at the newest athletic equipment, evaluates reviews  and research material. At the NADA we believe the quality of the athletic equipment our youngsters use is extremely important.  Our goal is to  collect data on recalls of athletic equipment. Review and collect data on new equipment that is manufactured each month. We want to know what is available on the market that will help make athletic competition safer and more enjoyable for our youngsters.

Many physical activities such as walking, require little special equipment. For others, it is essential to have correct equipment to prevent injury. Equipment for an activity may range from general items of clothing to special protective suits or apparatus.

Protective gear is a key element of injury prevention in sport. However, even the best gear is ineffective when the fit is improper. It is essential to understand and follow proper fit guidelines for all styles of equipment. Equipment should be utilized in the way that it was designed, with no modifications, to gain the full protective effects.

Reach -out to Disabled Athletes

Disabled athletes reach out program

Not long after the on-field injury that paralyzed  Darryl Stingley, we founded a nonprofit, all-volunteer charity called the   (nada) National Association for Disabled Athletes.  We know it is very important to encourage youngster's with similar injuries to continue the fight to recover. Our family of athletes offer a hand of friendship and they contact the family and youngster soon after the injury occurs.. The goal is to extend a hand of friendship and assure the youngster that they need to continue to fight to get well. And they should "never give up". hope. We are there to help.

Having children with a spinal cord injury affects the family's life. Parents, siblings, and caregivers need to work together to support their loved ones, solve problems, and help with treatment and therapy.

Volunteer Data base services

For 41 years the (nada) National Association for Disabled Athletes has been an all-volunteer charity. With a promise that "No person will ever receive a salary or receive money for their time they contribute to help these paralyzed youngsters". We depend on an all-volunteer staff to collect information and important data. We store information  in our large computer data base.  The charity depends on our volunteers, who often work from home to research and collect data.  The youngsters who are paralyzed and their families,  are grateful for the available information we provide.  For example, maybe a new wheelchair design has come on the market that can be helpful to a paralyzed teenager. We want to have all the information about the product available to give to the family. Each person on the  NADA staff volunteers time. The charities Executive Director, support staff and Board members all work without compensation. Their generosity of  time, means so much to these families as they struggle with the disability of their child.

 Electronic data storage

It lets us back up and protect important information automatically. While digital files can be lost or destroyed, the risks are much less than with paper files. And since digital files take up so little space they can be backed up in multiple locations so if one version of the file is lost you can easily recover a backup version of the file.
