About Us

DARRYL STINGLEY, photo (L) with Executive Director,Tom Scaglione, New Jersey Gov. Brendan Byrrne and New York Giants Quarterback, aLL-Pro Phil Simms

National Association for Disabled Athletes - ALL VOLUNTEER NON PROFIT CHARITY helping the community for over 41 years..

In 1979 Tom Scaglione had a long talk with Darryl Stingley and Catholic Priest, Father Tim Moore. Father Moore was very close friends with New York Football Giants team owner, Wellington Mara and former Green Bay Packers Head Football Coach Vince Lombardi.  Tom Scaglione wanted to establish a charity that helped teenagers seriously injured during athletic competition.  Similar to the injury, New England Patriots receiver,  Darryl Stingley incurred during a NFL  game. A decision was made that the charity needed to be an "all volunteer" charity. With a goal to provide much needed information and assistance to the families of the youngsters with spinal cord injuries. It was also decided that they would ask professional athletes to volunteer and reach  out to these youngsters  in friendship. And provide encouragement as they fight back from a devastating injury.

Jeannie Seeliger, Esq. SHOW JUMPING Photo (R)

Jeannie Seeliger, the spouse of the National Association for Disabled Athletes founder Tom Scaglione, was a competitive equestrian show Jumper (photos). She broke her back during a competition in Ireland. After  months at Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, New Jersey, she recovered enough to return home. Jeannie Seeliger. was a founding General Partner of the metropolitan New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York  Law Firm,  Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices. Fortunately, she eventually regained  her mobility from the fracture. The back injury did not cause paralysis. Jeannie Seeliger and Tom Scaglione met at work when they were specializing in Bankruptcy law. Jeannie was eager to volunteer time to the nada charity, She suggested that extra office space in the office building they owned could be given to the charity rent free. She wanted to contribute free office space and general operating expenses.  Tom Scaglione agreed. Jeannie Seeliger, realized her injury could have caused permanent paralysis and she felt blessed.  But she recognized that others are not as fortunate.
